Did you know what you eat could hurt you?

Most of us have grown up being told, “Everyone is equal.” Well, we are NOT! Even though we all have the same general body parts, the very blood that runs through our veins defines us, and we are all very different. Our blood defines us because it carries our unique DNA, which is the genetic code that defines every aspect of our physical being – our personal blueprint.

The concept of blood typing is to understand what foods are most beneficial and which could potentially be problematic for you. Eating according to blood type was discovered in the mid twentieth century by Dr. James D’Adamo, who studied how people with different blood types responded to various foods and activities. Dr. D’Adamo’s research was continued into the twenty first century via his son, Dr. Peter D’Adamo, who was able to show how the blood actually “agglutinates”, or rejects, certain foods. Essentially, food can be an “enemy” of the blood.

Blood typing goes beyond food, however, and can also determine your mental well-being, what type of physical exercise you should engage in, or what diseases you may be prone to. You can learn more about this concept in the YOUnique Community membership area.

Did you know that in Japan, instead of wanting to know a person’s astrological sign, they want to know his or her “blood type”? They want to know each other’s blood type because it gives them a basic understanding of a person in order to see if they are compatible or not.

Blood types evolved as people evolved to accommodate changes in climate, eating habits and lifestyle. Let us briefly explore the different blood types…

“O” Blood Type
O blood type is the oldest of the blood types, dating back as far as 50,000 BC. People with O blood type were hunters and gathers. Because they ate meat, their bodies developed the enzymes to appropriately digest and process the meat. While O blood type people ate some fruits (primarily berries) and vegetables (primarily roots and leaves), they rarely ate grains. Therefore, even today, O blood type people have difficulty digesting grains, primarily wheat and corn, and often struggle with weight. Learn more…

“A” Blood Type
Over time, hunting became more difficult and agriculture became a new way of life. “A” blood type evolved (between 15,000 and 25,000 BC), as people built communities and harvested from the land. Because people at that time ate mostly fruits, vegetables and grains and rarely ate meat, A blood type people are generally void of the enzyme needed to adequately digest meat; but abundant of enzymes to digest grains. A blood type people often have digestive problems due to meat consumption and do very well as vegetarians. Learn more…

“B” Blood Type
B blood type people developed primarily due to climactic changes, in moving from the African savannahs to the chilling Himalayas (between 10,000 and 15,000 BC), and are very balanced in nature. Two distinct groups of people developed from the B blood type: 1) nomads (Mongolians), who moved northwest and 2) farmers who settled in the southern and eastern parts of Asia. The B blood type started out as nomads, migrating from place to place. They relied heavily on herding and became accustom to consuming dairy products. Later, some of the B blood types settled in communities and became farmers. The farmers thought dairy was “the food of the barbarians” and would not consume it. To this day, some B blood types (typically Asians) do not possess the enzymes to process lactose, due to thousands of years of not consuming it. However, with some lactose treatments, B blood types can generally learn to tolerate dairy like their nomad cousins. Learn more…

“AB” Blood Type
AB blood types evolved from the integration of both hunting and farming (around 900 BC). It is the rarest blood type in the human race, accounting for only about 4% of the population. AB blood type people are very sensitive and can pick up the characteristics of both A and B blood types. Because they have neither A or B antibodies, they are less prone to having allergies or auto-immune disease. However, they have a greater predisposition to certain cancers because their blood sees anything that is “A-like” or “B-like” as “good” (even if they are bad) and produces no antibodies against them. Eating the right foods for your blood type is a CRITICAL part of your good health! If you continually eat foods that your blood is “rejecting”, your body can become diseased. However, if you eat mostly foods that are beneficial for your blood type, you will build a strong immune system to ward off sickness and disease. In other words, eat foods that “build up” your body instead of break it down.
